Accessibility

Wion.com is meant to be as accessible and usable as possible to anyone finding it to be of value or interest. To that direction I begin with using web standards in a clean and semantic manner to aid text reading devices and keyboard navigation. At the same time I try and keep things operable with preferences a user may have set in their user agents of choice (web browsers and the like).

If you are having a problem with this site in any way, then first visit my Site To Do List at the bottom of this page to find if I already have the problem slated for repair. (The Site To Do List is hopefully a short-lived section of this page, or at least one that will become shorter with time.)

If you still have a hot potato by that point, then by all means contact me and describe the problem you are having so I might do something about.

Site Navigation Aides

Skip to… and Other Quick-Access Utility Links

This site makes use of skip to… links at the top of every page. These links allow users of keyboard navigation to jump over redundant menu links and instead go directly to key content regions, both within a given page, and to other site pages (such as this accessibility page).

Access Keys

This site does not use accesskey attributes; I am not sure that doing so would provide any significant benefit over the current aides already implemented, mainly because this site’s architecture is not complicated enough to warrant it. There’s also the issue of access key assignments potentially conflicting with those already employed in user agents for other functions. If I were to ever employ access keys, I might do so following the access key recommendations in Fiche 12.6 of the AccessiWeb Guide.

Changing Text Size

To modify the size of text, you can use one of the methods described below based on your specific web browser.

For Various Modern Browsers

Hold Ctrl button then mouse wheel up or down.

For Internet Explorer

Go to View menu, select Text Size and choose from the text size options.

For Mozilla, Firefox or Netscape

Hold Ctrl button and press + to increase text size or - to decrease it.

For Opera

Press the + or - keys on keypad, or go to View menu, select Zoom and choose text size from options.

Site To Do List

Mainly due to a lack of free time, I have some issues in my site that still exist:

  1. Conversion of the contact and comment forms (both Textpattern) to non-table constructs. (Shame on me for this one, which should have been done a long, long time ago.)
  2. Improve contrast between certain text and background combinations, particularly where link colors are used.
  3. Provide titles to ambiguous links, where they might exist.
  4. Provide background icons to help visually distinguish external and PDF links.
  5. Provide an alternate viewing contrast by way of another theme (desert night theme).

Again, these are issues that I am aware of at the moment, not necessarily all the issues that might exist. If you know of another problem not indicated above then feel free to let me know.
